Out of School Clubs (OOSC) provide safe, supervised childcare for primary school-aged children outside normal school hours. OOSCs support families who need childcare after school, during school holidays, or on school In-Service days, while giving children a relaxed, welcoming space to play and socialise.
Out of School Club provision is for primary school children which can be provided by Shetland Islands Council and private providers.
Shetland Islands Council currently runs four regulated Out of School Clubs. These are:
- Brae Out of School Club
- Islesburgh Out of School Club
- Ness Out of School Club (temporarily closed)
- Sandwick Out of School Club (temporarily closed)
All regulated Out of School Clubs are registered with the Care Inspectorate.
Children attending Out of School Clubs are offered a healthy snack and can take part in a range of play-based activities, including arts and crafts, games, free play and time outdoors.
About Out of School Club provision
Out of School Clubs are a non-statutory service, which means there is not a legal obligation for local authorities to offer this provision. In addition to running council OOSCs, the council can support and offer advice to existing providers, as well as individuals or community groups interested in setting up their own Out of School Care provision locally.
