We will support the Shetland Space Innovation Campus project in order to help establish Unst as the site for new satellite launches and data tracking, as well as creating wider opportunities for supply chain services, education, research and innovation in Shetland.
The Islands Growth Deal Shetland Space Innovation Campus project has been merged in with another of the Islands Deal projects, a move that was approved by both UK and Scottish Government as part of that programme of work.
Meanwhile, work continues in Unst with the developer, Saxavord Space Port, making progress, which is ongoing, on site and with the public road infrastructure upgrading between Haroldswick and Skaw.
A Shetland Space Innovation Programme has been created to create a ‘Team Shetland’ approach to engage with the developer to maximise the community and supply chain benefits for the Unst and Shetland communities. Working groups include: education, skills and employment; promotion and tourism; economy community and environment; and contingency planning.
