We offer a range of weighing and measuring services, including the testing and calibration of equipment and hire of test weights.

Terms and conditions for hire of test weights
The basic hire charge is £7.41 (for weights up to 20 kg) or £13.76 (for 500 kg block weights) for each individual weight for the agreed duration of the hire, which may not exceed seven days. If an extension to the hire period is agreed, this will be charged at the rate of an additional £7.41 (for weights up to 20 kg) or £13.76 (for 500 kg block weights) for each individual weight for each additional period of up to seven days.
The hirer will normally arrange transportation of weights to and from the weights store at Market Street (for weights up to 20 kg) or the weights store at Greenhead (for 500 kg block weights).
On request, however, the Service will transport weights for the hirer.
For 500 kg block weights, this will be charged at the rate of £57.85 per officer hour plus the actual costs of hiring suitable vehicles (lorry and forklift truck) plus any additional travel costs incurred by the officer (45 p per mile plus any ferry fares). For all other weights, this will be charged at the rate of £57.85 per officer hour plus 45 p per mile plus any ferry fares incurred.
If test weights are damaged or lost at any time while on hire, the hirer will be responsible for paying the full cost of repair or the full replacement cost of the test weights. The hirer may not loan or sub-hire test weights without prior written consent of the Trading Standards Service.
The hirer is responsible for contacting the Trading Standards Service at or before the end of the scheduled hire period to arrange return / collection of the test weights. The Trading Standards Service reserves the right to recall test weights from hire at any time.
