Coronavirus Support for Communities

Support

Support with Food

A range of support is available for those struggling to access food during the coronavirus pandemic. Food parcels are available to the most vulnerable, and Shetland Islands Council, local third sector partners and the foodbanks are working together to ensure that support and deliveries reach those who need them.

If you are struggling with access to food, either because you are unable to leave the house, or due to financial hardships, contact the Shetland Coronavirus Support Hub on 0800 030 8780. Hub staff will be able to connect you with the support you need.

The Supercook search engine can help you find suitable recipes for the ingredients you have at home.

Support with Finances

The coronavirus pandemic has placed unexpected financial pressure on many households. If you find you are struggling to make ends meet, Shetland Islands Citizen’s Advice Bureau (CAB) are able to provide a range of financial advice, from debt management and energy advice to access to grants and benefits. Additional support may also be available through Shetland Island Council's emergency hardship fund and the free school meals scheme. To discuss the options available to you contact CAB on 01595 694696 or email sicab@shetland.org

If you are experiencing urgent and immediate hardship please call the Shetland Coronavirus Support Hub 0800 030 8780.

Support with Digital Technologies and Connectivity

Connecting with family and friends by phone, tablets and online video chats has become even more important during the Coronavirus lockdown, and has quickly become a lifeline for many. Shetland Library and Adult Learning are keen to continue to support people with digital access during lockdown.

If you need assistance you can email the Library at shetlandlibrary@shetland.gov.uk with a few details of the problem and a contact telephone number. A member of Library or Adult Learning staff will call you back as soon as possible.

The Library can also take phone calls on 01595 743868. Adult Learning can also be contacted as usual on 01595 743888.
