Information on the Shetland Community Directory
The Shetland Community Directory is a free online resource designed for everyone in Shetland. It is the place to go for information about local clubs, community groups, support services and community organisations.
Whether you're looking to take part in an activity, find support, or signpost someone to the right service, the Directory is the first place to look.
The Directory was commissioned by Shetland Islands Council, in partnership with NHS Shetland and Voluntary Action Shetland. It is a dedicated information database for Shetland.
What can I find on the Directory?
The directory brings together information on a wide range of local organisations and services, including:
- Youth groups & sports clubs
- Community Councils
- Public halls
- Community development organisations
- Third Sector services
- Council and NHS Shetland services
- And many more local initiatives
It's there to help you quickly discover what's available in your area, who is providing it, how to get in contact, and how to access it.
Why use the Community Directory?
The Directory benefits both indivduals and organisations in Shetland.
For individuals, it provides a central place to discover what activities and services are available locally in Shetland.
For organisations and groups, having a listing on the Directory increases visibility and helps people find you when they need your service. Not everyone uses social media, and these pages can often be left neglected and out of date. A Directory listing ensures your key information is easy to find and accurate.
The Directory may also be used by professionals across health, social care and the third sector to help signpost people to appropriate local activities and support. Keeping your listing up to date helps ensure the right people are directed to your service at the right time.
How does it work?
The Directory uses ALISS (A Local Information System for Scotland) to gather and share the information.
Groups must add and manage their information through ALISS themselves for it to be shown on the Shetland Community Directory. Groups have the responsibility to update and maintain their information.
Want to add your group or service?
If your service or group is not listed, please follow our simple step by step instructions here: Instructions for adding to ALISS (shetland.gov.uk) (2.44 MB).
