Homelessness

Homelessness in Shetland

The Rapid Rehousing Transition Plan (RRTP) provides the picture of homelessness in Shetland. The plan shows the work we will be focussing on over the next five years to have people housed in permanent accommodation as quickly as possible. Will will do this by improving homelessness prevention and providing support options for homeless households. The diferent actions identified are linked to the following homeless priorities:

  • Person centred
  • Prevention
  • Prioritise settled accommodation
  • Respond quickly and effectively
  • Join up planning and resources

The RRTP includes initiatives the Scottish Government wants local authorities to address in its endeavour end homelessness as a nation. Homelessness is not only "rooflessness" as many people think of it; it comes in many guises. Living arrangements can suddenly change and people find themselves threatened with homelessness or without permanent accommodation.
