ZetTrans seeks views on public transport fares

ZetTrans, the Regional Transport Partnership for Shetland, has launched a consultation on public transport fares in Shetland.

The survey seeks suggestions on how public transport fares could be set in the future, and feedback on previous work. Initial surveys took place in November and December 2020, to identify problems and opportunities linked to transport fares policy.

It is hoped that an alternative fare structure could deliver environmental, social and economic benefits for Shetland.  Some examples might include:

•         A reduction in transport related carbon emissions through increased uptake of public transport options in preference to the private car

•         Public health improvements as a result of increased walking and cycling in conjunction with public transport use

•         Improved equality of access to jobs, goods and services, through ensuring transport affordability.

Even if you do not currently use public transport in Shetland, ZetTrans and Shetland Islands Council would welcome your views.

The survey can be found at www.zettrans.org.uk/about/consultations and the closing date to respond is midnight on Monday 19 April 2021.

The survey is supported by the “Smarter Choices, Smarter Places” programme, supporting local authorities in Scotland to encourage more active and sustainable travel choices.

Paper copies of the questionnaire are also available and anyone needing assistance to complete the survey can contact Transport Planning on 01595 744868 or email robina.barton@shetland.gov.uk.
