Operational note: Assistive equipment amnesty

Independent living centre gremista

Shetland Islands Council’s Occupational Therapy Service is asking anyone to return any unwanted assistive equipment.

The Occupational Therapy team provide a range of support services to people in the community to help individuals to live independently at home.  This includes the provision of items such as mobility aids and equipment for daily living.

The Service is asking anyone who has items of assistive equipment that they no longer need, to please return these to the Independent Living Centre in Gremista:

  • Toilet frames
  • Perching stools
  • Shower stools
  • Kitchen trolleys
  • Bath-lifts
  • Over-bed tables
  • Bed leavers
  • Orthopaedic chairs

The Independent Living Centre has become familiar to many through its recent use as a Covid-19 vaccination centre, and can be found on the north side of Lerwick harbour on the Gremista Road.

All returned equipment can be left in the returns area under the carport at the lower entrance to the building, by the Community Equipment Store entrance.

Anyone with any queries on this can call the Community Occupational Therapy Team on 01595 744319.
