SQA results day for Shetland secondary pupils

School exams

Across Shetland, 605 secondary pupils will today receive their exam results from the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).

Awards include National, Higher and Advance Higher qualifications by pupils in the Senior Phase, Secondary 4 to 6.

For graded qualifications:

  • The A-C pass rate for Shetland, at National 5 is 79%.  The Scottish average this year is 77.2%
  • The A-C pass rate for Shetland, at Higher is 74%.  The Scottish average this year is 74.9%.
  • The A-C pass rate for Shetland at Advanced Higher is 69%.  The Scottish average this year is 75.3%

Pass rate information for non-graded qualifications has not yet been made available.

Many schools in Shetland will be open today for senior phase pupils to discuss their exam results with staff.  Details on this have been shared with pupils before the end of term.  Advice for pupils is also available on the Skills Development Scotland website www.myworldofwork.co.uk or through the Results helpline 0808 100 8000.

Pupils may appeal if they are concerned about a National 5, Higher or Advanced Higher grade and feel there may have been a mistake in the marking.  Pupils can appeal directly to the SQA Appeals Service from today, or can ask their school to do this for them.  Appeals can be prioritised if the pupil has a conditional place at university or college or in training or employment that depends on their grade.

The SQA Results Hub has more details of support options, and the appeals process, at: www.sqa.org.uk/sqa/78137.html

The SQA has this morning resolved a technical issue for pupils who signed up to receive their results by email – pupils should now have received an updated results email.  If pupils have any further issues, they should contact their school.

Davie Sandison, Chair of the Council’s Education and Families Committee said: “Today is about celebrating the achievements of young people throughout Shetland who have worked hard to gain their national qualifications. I would like to congratulate them all and thank their teachers and support staff who have helped them throughout the past year.

“A range of support is available for any pupil who may be disappointed with their results and I would encourage them access this help if they feel they need it.”
