Shetland Islands Council is inviting people across Shetland to take part in a new survey about the issues that matter most to the future of the isles.
The survey follows a series of Community Conversations held across Shetland in late 2025 and early 2026. It is the next stage in the Council's engagement process and aims to check whether the priorities identified by communities have been correctly understood and reflected in plans for the future.
Between November 2025 and January 2026 Councillors, the Chief Executive and Council officers visited communities across Shetland, hosting nine drop-in sessions alongside an online discussion for remote island communities. The events gave residents an opportunity to share their views on what helps their community thrive, what positive wellbeing looks like, and the role the Council should play in supporting local communities and services.
The conversations highlighted a number of recurring themes and priorities, which have helped inform the development of the Council's new Corporate Plan.
The new survey asks people whether these priorities reflect what matters most to them and whether the Council's proposed areas of focus provide the right framework for responding to the issues raised.
The survey is open to everyone, including those who were unable to attend the Community Conversations.
Maggie Sandison, Chief Executive, says: "We are grateful to everyone who took the time to participate in our Community Conversations and share their views about the future of Shetland. We heard a wide range of perspectives from communities across the isles, but there were also some clear themes about the issues people feel will be important in the years ahead.
"This survey is an opportunity for us to check that we have understood those messages correctly and that we have reflected them appropriately in our emerging plans. Whether you attended one of the Community Conversations or not, I would encourage you to take part and tell us whether we have got that right."

The survey will remain open until Sunday 4th October and should take around five minutes to complete.
