Disposal of hazardous items
The Gremista Waste Management Facility can accept the following hazardous items (classed as Special Waste in Scotland):
- Asbestos (must be double wrapped in plastic, contact the weighbridge office for access to asbestos skip - (SEPA note required)
- Batteries
- Car batteries
- Energy saving bulbs
- Fluorescent tubes
- Garden or household chemical
- Paint
- Waste oil
- Vehicles tyres - commercal waste please go over the weighbridge
Any queries please spek toa mmeber of our staff
Due to the nature of these items they must be disposed of properly, so should not go into general rubbish.
The following items cannot be accepted at the Gremista Waste Management Facility, please contact the necessary authorities:
- Fire extinguishers: return them to your supplier
- Flares: contact HM Coastguard on 01595 692976
- Gas bottles/cylinders: return them to your supplier
- Sharps (eg needles): contact NHS Shetland 01595 743060
