Internal Transport Services
In 2024 there were:
- 9 inhabited islands with inter-island ferry services which carried 752,621 passengers and 389,621 vehicles
- 2 inhabited islands with scheduled air services from Tingwall Airport, carrying 2,840 passengers
- 12 public bus routes throughout the islands, which carried 464,472 passengers
- 17,611 licensed vehicles (2023 data) and 670.3 miles of roads
External Transport Services
In 2024 there was:
- 1 external ferry service, connecting Shetland with Orkney and Aberdeen, which carried 416,221 passengers, 93,531 cars and coaches, and 630,746 meterage of commercial vehicles
- 1 airport accommodating flights in and out of Shetland, which handled 287,211 terminal and transit passengers, 17,116 aircraft movements and 194 tonnes of freight
Lerwick and Scalloway Harbours
During 2023:
- Lerwick Harbour welcomed 5,002 vessels and handled 877,197 tonnes of goods. Lerwick Port Authority revenue for the year was £15,387,000
- Scalloway Harbour welcomed 334 vessels and handled 19,414 tonnes of cargo. Scalloway Harbour revenue for the year was £882,288
