Internal Transport Services
In 2025 there were:
- 9 inhabited islands with inter-island ferry services which carried 762,054 passengers and 397,005 vehicles
- 2 inhabited islands with scheduled air services from Tingwall Airport, carrying 2,768 passengers
- 12 public bus routes throughout the islands, which carried 460,902 passengers
- 17,868 licensed vehicles (2024 data) and 649.1 miles of roads
External Transport Services
In 2025 there was:
- 1 external ferry service, connecting Shetland with Orkney and Aberdeen, which carried 403,364 passengers, 88,785 cars and coaches, and 669,836 meterage of commercial vehicles
- 1 airport accommodating flights in and out of Shetland, which handled 282,238 terminal and transit passengers, 16,167 aircraft movements and 190 tonnes of freight
Lerwick and Scalloway Harbours
During 2025:
- Lerwick Harbour welcomed 5,646 vessels and handled 911,440 tonnes of goods. Lerwick Port Authority revenue for the year was £18,548,000
- Scalloway Harbour welcomed 194 vessels and handled 12,307 tonnes of cargo. Scalloway Harbour revenue for the year was £708,519
