HSCP Strategic Plan

About our Plan

The Shetland Integration Joint Board (IJB) works with the Shetland Islands Council (SIC) and NHS Shetland. We work together to make sure health and care services meet the needs of people in Shetland. This partnership is called the Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP). The HSCP is responsible for carrying out the Plan for health and care services in the community.

Our Strategic Plan is our ‘big picture’ strategy, it shows us where we want to go, how we will get there, and how we will know if we have been successful by tracking key results such as using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). This Plan helps us to monitor our services to make sure they are working as they should. The Plan also helps us to work in partnership with the community, so that we make well considered decisions to help us achieve our goals; including how to develop new services and how to use our money and resources wisely, such as time, money, and staff.

This Strategic Plan is useful for many people:

•    Health and Care Staff
•    Planning and Decision makers
•    Service Users, Carers and the General Public
•    Third Sector and Voluntary Agency Partners

We spoke with many people to help us create this Plan. To find out the activity for this plan please read our Engagement Activity.

The Plan has an Equality Impact Assessment (otherwise known as EIA or EQIA).  For more information please view our Equality Impact Assessments page.

Our Joint Strategic Plan and the Directions

Our Joint Strategic Plan provides our ambitions and big goals for health and social care. Each year, Shetland IJB produce Directions, these documents are a set of clear instructions to NHS Shetland and Shetland Islands Council. These instructions tell the NHS and the Council exactly what services they need to provide. This ensures they are providing services that match our Joint Strategic Plan.

The Strategic Plan provides the overall goals; the "what" we want to achieve. The Directions are the detailed instructions; the "how" we are going to achieve it.
