The Bridges Project supports young people aged between 14-19 years who live throughout Shetland.  At Bridges we offer a timetable of classes, courses and activities that aim to improve confidence, self-esteem, motivation, employability skills and qualifications.  This assists young people to overcome barriers in order to move into employment, training or further education.

The support offered can include:

Regular one-to-one contact with their assigned support worker.

Classes which consist of group work, accreditation, social and emotional wellbeing, career based learning, online courses and remote learning.

Volunteering Opportunities.

Work Experience.

The support offered includes working together to develop an individual plan which will highlight the young person’s goals and how they will be supported to achieve them.  Bridges will use a holistic approach with the young person, family and other professionals involved.

Bridges can offer support to young people who are on the school role but require a different learning environment to enable them to achieve their academic goals and promote life-long learning.

Bridges is part of the Employability Pathway and can offer young people programmes such as Steps To Employment and the Shetland Employer Recruitment Incentive, both are local authority schemes. Young people may also be eligible to claim £30 a week through the Educational Maintenance Allowance.
