Junior NEC

What is a Junior NEC?

It is a card for those aged 5-10 years who wish to benefit from the Young Persons' (Under 22) Free Bus Travel scheme.

Some young people in this age group may have previously been eligible for a NEC called the Kidz card, this Junior NEC will replace this.

How do I apply for a card?

If you are aged 5-10, then get your parent or guardian to complete our online form

Your parent or guardian can also choose to apply themselves on your behalf online at GETYOURNEC.SCOT.  If you’re applying online, you may find it useful, before starting the application process, to download or look out the documents as outlined on GETYOURNEC.SCOT that you will need. You can apply using a smartphone/tablet or a computer depending on your preference, and if you don't have scanned copies of your documents, you can take photos of your proofs during the application process using a smartphone/tablet.

You should allow up to ten working days from the date your application was approved for your card to arrive.

I've lost my card, what do I do?

If you lose your card then please contact  YouthServices@shetland.gov.uk  or on 01595 743716 or speak to the office staff at your School.

Junior NEC Application

Do I need to change my card when in P7?

Yes.  Your Junior NEC (card) will only remain valid until the day before your 12th birthday.  You can apply for a Young Scot National Entitlement Card (NEC) from the age of 11years Young Scot NEC Application

We advise that you do this while in P7, as once you are in secondary school you can use your Young Scot NEC in cashless catering falicities.
