New guidance leaflet for Shetland Outdoors

Shetland Islands Council has produced a new leaflet aimed at both residents and visitors, which answers some of the most common questions around the Scottish Outdoor Access Code in Shetland

The leaflet has links to useful websites and online resources, and gives brief guidance on, for example, how to walk your dog, camp, and enjoy Shetland’s landscape responsibly and without causing upset to the islands’ wildlife, or to local landowners and crofters.

It simplifies some key elements of the much more detailed Scottish Outdoor Access Code to make the guidance more accessible to the casual reader. For more detailed guidance you should still refer to the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.

You can view and download the leaflet here online and once it is appropriate to do so it will be available in visitor information centres across Shetland, leisure centres and libraries.

Please follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code when you're out and about, have your dog on a lead and avoid parks and areas with sheep gathered and particularly any with lambs.

You can contact us on 01595 744169 or email Kevin Serginson to discuss outdoor access in Shetland.
