What is Climate Change?

How can we make a difference?

Reduce global greenhouse gas emissions

The most crucial step to limit climate change is to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions as quickly as possible either by doing things less or doing them differently. There are many different ways this can be done and governments, businesses, organisations and individuals around the world can all contribute. In January 2020, Shetland Islands Council showed their commitment to addressing climate change when a Climate Emergency was acknowledged and the Climate Change Programme set up. See what projects we are doing to tackle the climate emergency and meet Scottish Government targets

There are a number of simple and easy changes you can make in your everyday life to help reduce your impact at home. Why not try one today?

We also have some actions for businesses looking to start their journey towards net-zero.

Shetland has an engaged community with lots of climate positive works already ongoing. Volunteering is a great way to make a difference in your community.  We have several case studies available on some of the excellent works already happening throughout Shetland.
