Economic Development grant scheme

Shetland Islands Council is committed to improving the economic health and wellbeing of the isles by promoting innovation and diversity in the private sector, and supporting local communities in their efforts to generate economic activity. In the context of challenging economic conditions for local authorities, the level of funding available and the way in which it is distributed has been under extensive review, and the Council must ensure that the local economy derives the maximum amount of benefit from any public expenditure.

To this end, the Council's Economic Development Service aims to stimulate local economic activity by supporting individuals, businesses and organisations to turn ideas into commercial reality.

Through the Economic Development grant scheme, financial assistance is provided to assist applicants with the costs related to developing projects, where these projects meet key eligibility criteria and will result in extensive local benefits.
