Shetland Business Start Up Grant

Application process

In the first instance, applicants should contact Business Gateway Shetland to discuss the project and check eligibility.

A business adviser will be assigned and will provide guidance and assistance to develop the project and ensure that all the required information is submitted, including the business plan and financial forecast.

Prior to submitting an application, applicants will be expected to take part in a Business Gateway start-up workshop/webinar, if reasonably practicable.

Applicants are required to complete an online application form and submit their business plan, 2-year projected cash flow, proof of commencement of trading, and a quote demonstrating market value for all items requested in the application. It is recommended that you source multiple quotes to obtain a competitive price. (Please note, you only need to supply us with your preferred quote(s).)

All applications are assessed and verified against the grant criteria by Business Gateway Shetland.  Making an application to the fund does not guarantee that your application will be successful and all awards are subject to budget availability.  All items of expenditure included in grant applications, and any subsequent grant award, must be used wholly and exclusively for business purposes.  The Council reserves the right at all times to refuse any application made under this Scheme, at its sole discretion.

The Council may make any award of assistance under this Scheme subject to any additional conditions and requirements, as the Council considers appropriate.

There is no appeals process, the Council’s decision is final.

Details of applications and payments made will be recorded and shared with Shetland Islands Council and Highlands and Islands Enterprise on a regular basis.
