Communication Support Service

The Communication Support Service is part of the Education Outreach Service and we work to promote inclusion and improve outcomes for children and young people across Shetland.

We work in partnership with parents and other professionals to support pupils use of AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication).

We can offer support and advice to pupils who require AAC.  We work closely with Speech Therapy Staff and the Lead for AAC in Shetland.

Following assessment we can provide:

  • direct teaching
  • advice, support and training for class teachers and other staff
  • loan of resources to support use of AAC
  • links with other agencies

Requests for involvement can come from Speech Therapy (following parent / pupil consent), parents, carers and schools.
