Consultation
We carried out a public consultation with parents and carers from Monday 11 May to Sunday 21 June 2026.
The consultation gathered feedback from parents and carers of children and young people with any experience of support for learning, whether this support was occasional, targeted, or ongoing. We also invited parents and carers with of children and young people who had recently left school to take part in the review and share views.
To ensure a wide range of views were heard, we used a variety of approaches, including:
- An online or paper survey
- Informal drop-in sessions across Shetland, delivered in partnership with Ability Shetland
- Individual meetings with parents and carers
We would like to thank everyone who took part and gave their time, experiences and insights to support the review. Your contributions are invaluable in helping us understand what is working well and where improvements can be made.
What will happen next?
We have gathered a significant volume of rich qualitative feedback from our parent and carer consultation, which will now be carefully analysed to identify key themes and insights.
A Findings Report from the parent and carer consultation will be produced and published. We aim to share this by the end of 2026.
Stage 2 of Stakeholder Consultation
Stage 2 will focus on engaging with professionals working across education and in our schools, ensuring that professional perspectives and frontline experience help shape the review.
Consultation with children and young people is also continuing into Stage 2 and is being delivered through our schools.
