How we use energy, either by using less or more efficiently, can reduce your carbon footprint and is also going to save you money, for example not leaving devices on standby will save 10kg of CO2 and around £55 a year.  All these little changes can make a difference both to a household and the world.

  • Ask your energy supplier about installing a smart meter or if a smart meter isn’t available for your tariff install an energy monitor
  • Avoid using a tumble dryer where possible
  • Avoid watching TV while scrolling through phone
  • Check your Direct Debit to make sure you're not overpaying
  • If you have space available consider installing PV or Solar thermal panels, or a small wind turbine
  • Only boil the water you need
  • Replace light bulbs with low-energy ones
  • See if your energy supplier has a green tariff or look into switching to one that does
  • Switch off devices instead of putting them on standby
  • Switch off lights
  • Take a moment to consider how much energy you are using, and the main areas of consumption
  • Turn appliances off when not in use
  • Unplug appliances and devices at the wall
  • Wash clothes on a lower temperature
