During the coronavirus lockdown that started in March 2020 our book groups are happening online or by email.
Lerwick Book Group
This group normally meets once a month at the Library. It is very informal and members take turns to choose a book to read. During the Coronavirus crisis, the group is experimenting with email discussion and Facebook comments. We will post more information here when the group is more active again.
Our crime reading group was inspired by Orkney Library.
The group normally meets on the second Saturday of the month, from 2pm -3pm. If you are interested in joining, please contact Marghie at the Library on firstname.lastname@example.org
Next meetings and what we're reading...
Saturday 14 November 2020 - Murder in the Valleys by Pippa McCathie
Saturday 12 December 2020 - Whisky from Small Glasses by Denzil Meyrick
Shetland (Face)Book Group
A group that meets both online and offline to talk about a Shetland novel. We started this in November 2019 and our first author was Marsali Taylor. We hope to kick off more sessions soon on our Facebook page.

Lunch with Dickens
The lunchtime book group - Lunch with Dickens - reads books published prior to the 20th century. The books are generally by British authors but we aim to include one foreign novel and one children’s novel per year, as well as always beginning the year with Dickens. The members agree to read a set number of chapters a week and meet every Thursday at 1pm in the Library. If you are interested in joining the group please contact Val Turner for more information (01595 694688 or email@example.com )

'Based on the Book'
How many times have you had discussions about whether a film was better or worse than the book it was adapted from? The Based on the Book group which ran during 2014 watched a film, read the book and then discussed both. The group has come to an end but if you would like to organise something similar, come and speak to us at the Library about borrowing the books and DVDs you need.
