Dosh for Delting

A Community Council PB Pilot Project based in the Delting Community Council area to distribute £18,000, undertaken in May 2016.

The aims of the project were to:

  • Build and maintain momentum in PB activity already being supported by PB Partners
  • Increase the impact PB has to support community engagement
  • Build on participatory democracy
  • Help tackle inequality

Delting Community Council together worked in partnership with Shetland Islands Council to deliver this pilot project.  Due to short timescales it was not possible to undertake a widespread community consultation, however existing evidence and the Community Council knowledge of the area and its needs contributed to the setting of the priorities.

Delting Community Council held 3 public evening information sessions to raise awareness of the project and its aims.  They used this and the local press, email, facebook, school distribution lists, flyers and posters to invite applications from community groups and organisations.  Applications were received and sifted and 11 projects went through to the voting day.  Groups were invited to the event to do a 3 minutes presentation of their project and the benefit it would be to the community.

The PB event took place on the evening of Friday 20th May and was well attended with approximately 170 people from the area of all ages from the very young to the not so young that came along to cast their vote with 150 voting forms returned.  Each group bidding for funding was asked to bring some home bakes, and these were served along with refreshments by the Hall Committee.  The turn-out for the event equated to approximately 8% of the DCC population, and exceeded expectations.

Of the total of eleven voluntary groups and organisations applying for funding seven were awarded all or part funding for their project.  The groups, projects and funding applied for is detailed below for information.    Of the projects have been monitored and are now complete having achieved what was set out in their applications.
