Special Waste
Special Waste is a material that can be hazardous to human health or the environment.
It is your legal responsibility to ensure is is disposed of correctly. All Special Waste must be accompanied with the appropriate SEPA consignment note.
The Council provides disposal options for the following:
- Asbestos -- you must give 3 days notice prior to disposal and all consignments must be double wrapped
- Clinical Waste -- we provide a collection service for Category E (non-infectious) in Lerwick and Scalloway, alternatively it can be take directly to the Energy Recovery Plant
- Electrical Goods
- Fluorescent Tubes
- Fridges and Freezers
- Vehicle Batteries
We will not accept any Special Waste that is not accompanied with a completed SEPA consignment note.
