Which route is right for me?

Pick a statement: I want a paid job and to learn while I work I am still at school (S5–S6) and want to explore my options first

I would like a qualification first, then move into work or an apprenticeship

Suggested route: Modern Apprenticeship (MA)

S5–S6 Access route

National Progression Award (NPA)

Good to know:

MA:

  • Paid job and training
  • Workplace experience and a recognised qualification
  • For people aged 16+ with no upper age limit

Access route:

  • Explore health and care careers while still at school
  • Build confidence and experience
  • Designed for the senior phase students (S5–S6)

NPA:

  • A learning route that builds knowledge and confidence
  • Gain a recognised qualification
  • A strong foundation that supports progression to work
