Joining and using the library

How to join

Who can join the library?

If you live in Shetland you can join by visiting the Library, filling in a short form and showing some ID with your address on. You will get your library card right away and can begin borrowing.

If you are under 16, your parent or guardian should visit and sign the form, including giving you permission to use library computers, if desired. Our school libraries work hard to join up school pupils, so many young people will already be members.

Visitors to Shetland can get a temporary membership by visiting the Library. You just fill in a short form with your home and Shetland address, and provide some ID.

Joining online

Shetland residents can also join online. This will let you use our e-services right away, and you can later upgrade to a full membership by visiting or contacting the Library.
